Invisalign is a teeth-straightening system that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gradually move your teeth into their correct positions. It is the perfect teeth straightening option for individuals desiring attractive, straight teeth without the commitment of traditional metal braces. No one can see them, so you can smile while your teeth are being straightened and your smile is becoming more and more beautiful. You can also remove the aligners at any time: to eat, to floss, or for a special occasion. With Invisalign you can transform your smile without interfering with your day-to-day life. At Hampton Dentistry, orthodontist Dr. John E. Baker provides his patients with the most beautiful results with Invisalign, truly giving them something to smile about.
The first step of using Invisalign involves taking x-rays and digital images of your teeth and making impressions of your bite. This information is sent to the Invisalign® laboratory where it is used to create 3-D images of your teeth. A treatment plan will then be made which will help predict the amount of time it will take to achieve your goal.
Next, custom aligner trays will be made using the information from the evaluation step. The aligners are made from crystal clear BPA-free plastic and will gradually move the misaligned teeth to their correct position. Unlike metal braces, they are very smooth and won’t irritate your gums or the inside of your mouth. The aligners are designed to allow a gentle gradual movement of your teeth. Best results are obtained when they are consistently worn for 22 hours per day.
Approximately every two weeks, you will progress to the next aligner. This slight change in the aligner will advance your treatment until your teeth have moved into the correct position. Typically for an adult the treatment will take about a year.
Invisalign can be a great option for both adults and teens. Whether your smile needs minor improvements or more extensive adjustments, Invisalign can certainly help. It is successful in treating overly crowded or widely spaced teeth. It can also relieve more complex issues, including overbites, underbites and even crossbites. The best way to find out if you are a candidate for Invisalign is to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. John Baker at Hamptons Dentistry. During the consultation, you can ask any question you may have and find out if Invisalign is the best solution for you.
